Happy #throwbackthursday

Taking it to one of the cover stories of July 14, 1975 when heavy rains flooded the area causing a vehicle and its occupant to be swept into the Skippack Creek at the Mainland Bridge on Sumneytown Pike. The occupants were rescued after heroic efforts were made by Asst Chief Robert Moyer and firefighter Lonnie Miller.

The bridge was washed out. And a tree that had fallen into the creek was also removed causing the car to get sucked under the bridge due to the swift currents caused by the rain.

Pictured below is the smoldering remains of a barn on Donald Fretz’s property. Donald Fretz was the assistant chief of Fairmount Fire Company - Lansdale, Pennsylvania at the time but resided on Allentown Road in Towamencin township.

The barn and contents were completely destroyed, totaling over $10,000 in damage.

Companies that assisted Towamencin on this call were Fairmount and Worcester Volunteer Fire Company.

After an exceptionally long and

After an exceptionally long and hot day, we are happy to announce that our company has cleared from the incident at Wambold and Sumneytown Pike.

Thank you all for your patience.

During this incident, our fire company was also dispatched to two turnpike calls and a field fire. Totaling ten incidents in the last 36 hours, it’s safe to say this was a busy week. We thank all of our police, firefighters, fire police, EMS and road crews that helped today.
